Black Widow’s back at Manchester235 Poker Lounge

No cash for Kelly this week though...

Black Widow’s back at Manchester235 Poker Lounge

After finishing second in the last £10NLH tournament (click here for blog) I was looking forward to Tuesday’s game.

The first 90-minute period saw a loose, aggressive start, with players taking advantage of the re-buy period.

The Manchester235 Poker Lounge was filled with some familiar faces – Shayne Mooney and Mike Worrall from the Redtooth Poker League at the Red Lion in Withington, an old friend called Chris Evans from Widnes and Mr Black Widow, Steve Waring, also came down to try the Tuesday tournament for the first time.

Regular players Kevin Chiu, Renegade and last week’s winner Vishcish were also out in force and eager to follow previous achievements.

Entrants for the Tuesday tournament have been increasing week on week; 25 players and a £580 pot made for a lively atmosphere.

The first 90-minute period saw a loose, aggressive start, with players taking advantage of the re-buy period.

My main objective was to sit tight. Unfortunately, I lost my mind and most of my chips to a man called Daniel Morris. With AQ suited, I’d hit nothing on the community cards, yet still called Daniel’s large bets. Daniel had hit a set of Jacks. I’d hit nothing. I re-bought.

Also on our table, and new to casino poker, Andy Mullett took an early chip lead going head to head with Mike Worrall, who was unlucky when his AJ lost out to Andy’sA4 when the river card hit 4. Frustrated Mike took the beat well, and re-bought.

The break came and 16 players took advantage of the double add-on. Play tightened up, but remained aggressive. Players started dropping and I wasn’t too far after them. It wasn’t my night.

The final table started with two significant chip leaders, Kevin Rayner (58,300) and Daniel Morris (56,800). Daniel lost a significant chunk early on with a call to Casey Jones’ all-in. Casey’s pocket nines held and Daniel’s chip stack was left with a severe dent.

Vishcish had been determined to top last week’s win with another tonight – and went all-in against Casey with pocket jacks. Casey thought about it, and finally called with AJ. The community cards were 4, 5, A, 3 and 8. Not tonight, Vishcish - an 8th place finish will have to do.

The game slowed down with the next player going out ‘on the bubble’ – just before you win any cash. Our resident blogger Chris ‘Dirty Cash’ Grimes represented Team Confidential with another strong game, with some ballsy bet, but came unstuck and left the table in fifth.

Play picked up, as everyone was in the money. Renegade left the table in fourth with £30, and Liam Hickson soon followed taking home £90.

This left a heads-up with larger stacked Kevin Rayner and Casey Jones. A very short heads-up ended with a full house to Kevin who held pocket threes to Casey’s K9. The community cards were K, 8, K, 3 and J and winner Kevin took home £290, with runner up Casey banking £170.

Back to the drawing board for me.
