Bezathon Sets World Record!

If you've ever wondered what 407 people shaking maracas sounds like (as I'm sure you have done, countless times), I can tell you, it's loud. And that's why, since the Bezathon this lunchtime, I have been speaking a few decibels louder than normal and I have a funny ringing sound in one ear. Was it worth it? Erm… yeah!

In probably the most random lunch break that I have ever taken, the Manchester Confidential massive wandered across the road to Albert Square like excited school children at 12 o'clock today, to take part in the record breaking Bezathon.

The Bezathon, in which 407 nutters turned up to shake maracas and dance with Bez from the Happy Mondays, was organised to mark the launch of Xfm Manchester, which hit our airwaves this morning at 8am with Paul Tonkinson's breakfast show. The first song, voted by the public as the Best Manchester Anthem of All Time, was the Stone Roses' classic "I am The Resurrection".

Arriving at 12 o' clock to collect our maracas and Xfm beanie hats, we were entertained by the brilliant Xfm Band who warmed the crowd up with a set oozing with upbeat indie classics before the man himself took to the stage at 12.45, joined by Xfm DJs Paul Tonkinson, Michelle Mullane and Clint Boon.

For two minutes a crowd of 407 office workers, builders, students and music fans joined Bez and co to set the world record for the 'Largest Maracas Ensemble'. And Manchester Confidential was there at the forefront, shaking our stuff with the best of them!

Bez said: "Listen to Xfm and keep in touch with the people of Manchester. It has been a freezing cold Wednesday afternoon, but hundreds of people turned out to get off their maracas and celebrate Manchester music - brilliant!"
