Bastard Funny

Published on February 9th 2006.

Bastard Funny, as you may have gathered by its name, is a comedy show. To be more precise, it’s a comedy sketch show, written by and starring a collective of well known local comedy names and faces.

To celebrate Manchester’s status as the nation’s second comedy city, and the rising and risen stars that the city has produced, Bastard Funny will be performed every four months at an established city centre comedy venue. You may remember that the show premiered as part of Manchester’s Comedy Festival back in October – and now the second instalment of the sketch show will take place this month at the Green Room.

The show, directed by an established comedy director, features 90 minutes of sketch and character comedy, and will provide comedy audiences with an alternative to stand up. Bastard Funny is an opportunity for new comedy talent to work alongside already established performers, and a great chance to see up and coming comedians before they become big.

The last outing of Bastard Funny in October was the talk of the town, and was highly commended by many in the television industry with one producer describing it as the sketch show with the best hit rate she had ever seen. This month’s show is written and performed by 10 of Manchester’s most talented comedy performers and will feature 100% original, never before seen material.

And more importantly – its name means that I can get away with swearing on Manchester Confidential for once, so I’m going to take full advantage. Bastard bastard bastard bastard. There, out of my bastard system.
