Bang Said The Gun Comes To Manchester

Poetry, laughs and poignancy in city centre pub

Published on April 17th 2012.

Bang Said The Gun Comes To Manchester

LONDON's mud-wrestling-with-words night gets a Mancunian brother. Bang Said The Gun: Manchester starts on 26 April at the Old Nags Head and will be on every Thursday after that.

Entertaining, inclusive, crude and at times rather challenging to the strength of your bladder...

Five Manchester based poets, Dominic Berry, Kieren King, Rod Tame, Dave Viney and Benny Jo Zahl have come together for the first poetry night. The nights will celebrate the best in local and national poets, with guests such as Radio 4 Slam Champion Ben Mellor and multi award winning poet Inua Ellams.

Bang Said The Gun will also offer the audience the chance to compete for the coveted Golden Gun prize in the Top Banana Open Mic. The winner will also get their own 10 minute guest slot at a future event.

Bang Said The Gun in London is considered to be one of the best poetry nights in the country and has recently reached over 4 million viewers on Channel 4's Random Acts.

Popshot Magazine described the London show as “…quite comprehensively the best poetry night I have ever been to. Described by their fair selves as ‘mud wrestling with words’, it was the finest portrayal of how performance poetry should be. Entertaining, inclusive, crude and at times rather challenging to the strength of your bladder... So if you thought poetry nights were a little dry, think again. Hit up BANG SAID THE GUN whenever possible.”

Bang Said The Gun promises a great night of poetry for people who don’t like poetry, so if you loathe poetry, and even if you like it, try the Old Nags Head on Thursday for some good ol' verbal mud wrestling.
