Recording a new live album exclusively over 2 nights at Band on the Wall, Salsa Celtica’s synthesis of Scottish and Irish traditional music with elements of salsa has made them a hit all over the world. Their extended line-up for these special concerts combines some of the most exciting traditional artists with a stellar international group of world, jazz and salsa musicians.

Music to watch girls and boys by. Pianist, composer and Prix Constantin nominee Emily Loizeau is part of the French new wave of musicians embracing the chanson tradition and giving it a delightful contemporary edge. Joining her for this double bill is Manchester singer-songwriter Liz Green whose country blues sound is perfectly complimented by a voice that sounds like it should emanate from a dusty bakelite 78.

Pianist Michael Wollny’s performances have generated huge waves of excitement across Europe. As well as garnering numerous accolades with his trio [em], Wollny has enjoyed long-term duo partnerships with Joachim Kühn and Heinz Sauer. Now this comet of the German jazz scene visits Manchester for a solo concert which promises to be sublime.

Alice Russell has gained an enviable reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting soul singers. Alice’s lavishly soulful voice is both classic and deeply powerful. Live or on record, she always performs with her trademark self assurance and sass. Her performances captivate audiences and command our attention.

The dynamic duo of Alice Russell and TM Juke has accumulated a loyal fan base with four albums of self-penned classics, innovative collaborations and fantastic covers. ‘Pot of Gold’, inspired by many intense years on the road, comes full circle as Alice and her band tour this new album worldwide.

Pot Of Gold is released on October 5th alongside a 22 track double CD and digital package of remixes by Mr Scruff, DJ Vadim, The Heavy, Shawn Lee and many more.

Pianist Helge Lien, bass player Frode Berg and drummer Knut Aalefjær continue the great tradition of Scandinavian jazz piano trios who make technically dazzling playing look easy. Building on musical terrains explored by Bill Evans and Esbjörn Svensson, this is impressionistic, avant jazz at its harmonically complex best.

Canada’s Erik Mongrain is famous for his unique acoustic guitar style that incorporates his two-handed lap tapping technique. While influenced by both Don Ross and Michael Hedges, his nuanced and percussive style is very much his own with over 4 million views on YouTube making him very much a star in the making.

The 8-piece Los Angeles-based Breakestra's sound is pure uncut funk and jazzy soul - played loud. Watching Breakestra live is a tour-de-force of funkdom — 8 funksters on stage getting loose, playing serious grooves. Think James Brown. Think Parliament. As the band's Dr Tackett says, “What are the first three letters of FUNK?”.

Concert is followed by the official Breakestra aftershow party with guest DJs manning the mothership 'till 3am. Free entry to Breakestra concert ticket holders or £6 on door.

Chris Wood’s weaving of traditional folk with his own rich and contemporary parables has led to justified comparisons with Richard Thompson at his best. The current recipient of the BBC Folk Award for both Singer and Album of the year, Chris Wood’s Handmade Life includes fellow Imagined Villagers’ Andy Gangadeen and Barney Morse Brown with Robert Jarvis on trombone.

Step Up continues its intoxicating late night blend live performances by internationally acclaimed artists mixed with DJ sets by Manchester's finest.

This night sees a very special live set by big bad bass maestro and electronic's shamen Sneaky who effectively blew both David Byrne and Orbital offstage at this year's Big Chill. For those who need to know he's the originator and finest purveyor of Wood Hop - his deliberate collision of real instruments and genuine musical virtuosity with samples, production anarchy, DJ brainwaves and jazz chops. The Magic Numbers exploded on to the British music scene in 2005 with their gorgeous hit singles Forever Lost and Love Me Like You. Riding high on the critical acclaim of their eponymously-titled album which received a Mercury Music Prize nomination the same year, the whole nation fell in love with their unique sound which infused a pop sensibility with complex but understated folk arrangements and melodies to die for.

Since that heady year the band have musically gone from strength to strength with the album Those the Brokes demonstrating the breadth of their artistic range and lyricism.

Known for their wonderfully intimate live concerts, their appearance at Band on the Wall promises to be one of the highlights of this year's tour.
