Baby body beautiful

I don’t know about you but it seems that there is something in the water. Everywhere I turn there are pregnant ladies and to be honest, I am no exception, being due with my first in October. I have had tonnes of requests for top tips on how to keep stylish when you are a yummy mummy in waiting, so here, for all of you gorgeous girls that are expanding by the day, are my best buys.

Help! Tends to be the cry of many mummies to be out there, when they find that alas, their fave pair of denims, just won’t fasten anymore. Believe me, it is the first thing to go and thankfully there are some fabulous maternity options on the market. They may not look amazing at the top, but stretchy bands apart you would be hard pushed to tell the difference once they are on, and so comfy. This summer, pale colours are right on trend so why not try this gorgeous white bootcut style from www.isabellaoliver.com At £110 they are a bit pricey, but they fit brilliantly, wash well and believe me you will get plenty of wear out of them. Special mentions to collections at Topshop and H&M who have up to the minute maternity denims and Mothercare, whose MODA bootcut jean in a dark indigo is my own favourite, and a bargain at £25.

Work wear, especially in the summer heat, can be tricky when you are growing by the day. My tip is dresses. They are dead easy to just throw on and mean you only have to worry about 1 item, not matching top with trousers or skirts etc, just really simple and stylish. You don’t have to go for a specialist maternity style, an empire line in a larger size tends to be just a good and you get more choice. The key is to choose fabric that will drape nicely and stretch. I think that this is an all-rounder, perfect baby bump dress from www.funmum.com At £42, the wrap style is really flattering and will grow with you. Try popping a coloured vest underneath and co-ordinating your accessories to brighten it up and create different looks with one staple piece. Great for work, teamed with heels or wedges, and looks fab too with flip flops and funky beads.

Basic tops that you feel comfortable in are a staple part of your wardrobe and when you find them, make sure you stock up. My advice is not to go for black, the spring is here and choosing shades that flatter your natural colourings will mean you look vibrant and glowing, even if you don’t feel it. This gorgeous yellow swing top comes in a packet of 2 for £18 and is from Littlewoods direct. It comes in plenty of colours and will brighten up any daytime wardrobe. Try teaming it with long beads as shown here, it adds a vertical line which elongates and slims the torso, whilst flattering your gorgeous bump.

If you are lucky enough to only be expanding on your tummy then I have just the thing to help your wardrobe grow with you. A Belly Belt™ Kit contains all you need to convert your clothes. They include stretchy belts in different sizes, and coloured panels that mix and match to your clothes. The Belly Belt Combo kit containing four belts (2 to for button/button hole trousers and 2 for slide and clasp trousers, and should convert your entire wardrobe to maternity in seconds. What a clever idea.

Most of the large retailers have maternity collections now. My advice would be to use them for everyday trousers, basics and structured items. Try skirts with a stretch waist band this summer for a boho and comfy look, most regular collections have these in. If you stick to soft fabrics and go up a couple of sizes most mums to be will find that regular collections are just as good. Kaftan style tops at Monsoon and soft light knitwear from Matalan are both worth checking out.

If you fancy being pampered in a mummy friendly environment and would like some specialist help then why not try one of Manchester’s fabulous independent maternity stores. Love Maternity in Wilmslow, Jojo Maman Bebe in Hale, and Bumps n Babies in Stockport all have tonnes of stylish treats in store.

So, staying stylish as you bloom has never been so easy, and those maternity jeans come in very handy after a big curry- I think I’m going to keep them forever.

Good luck all your yummy mummies in waiting and if you need any more help just click here to email me.
