The lovely people at Arena Events are bringing a little piece of Munich to Manchester, holding the very first Bierfest in Manchester’s G Mex, on Thursday October 13th,17.30 – 22.30, and Friday 14th, 13.30 – 18.30.

The G Mex centre will be transformed into an authentic Bavarian Bier Hall with streamers, flags, side stalls and traditional live Oompah bands, not forgetting the big beers, big sausages, and some, erm, ‘well endowed’ members of staff, who will be treating punters to some dancing over the course of the event. Those crazy Germans.

Similar events in London, held over the past two years, have been a huge success, with 8000 people drinking over 29,000 ‘steins’ of beer. Sounds like a challenge to me.

Star of the show, the beer itself, is provided by Munich’s largest brewer Paulaner and comes in several varieties:

Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier: Formerly brewed exclusively for the Oktoberfest, as the name suggests. A bright, red-gold beer with a sweetish, full-bodied flavour and rich malt aroma. 6% abv.

Paulaner Bavarian Wheat Beer: A golden, unfiltered, naturally cloudy wheat beer with a rich, complete flavour. It is top-fermented with a mix of malted wheat and barley. 5.5% abv.

Paulaner Original Munich Lager: A bright, golden beer with a light, clean body. It has a distinctive malt accent as opposed to the hoppier brews of the Pilsner style, so I’m told. 4.9% abv.

The Bierfest is a corporate event and an exclusive table for 10 guests is £690 + VAT. With great hot and cold food, table service and unlimited Paulaner Beer, what better way to spend an October evening?
