Autumn’s coolest trends

It’s time to celebrate the cold ladies and embrace autumn’s must have trends

Autumn’s coolest trends

September means the days may be getting shorter and the rain is on its way (did it ever leave?) but take comfort in knowing that soon those high streets will be full of gorgeous new treats to soothe away your pain.

So without further ado, here are my top tips for this autumn.

Get waisted
Grab your slimming pants and tone that tum because this season the hourglass silhouette is the slinkiest. This look means figure hugging pencil skirts and shift dresses a plenty all teamed with fab waist sincher belts of all widths. Think forties glamour and you can’t go far wrong. Topshop has tonnes of great coloured waited belts, H&M have gorgeous stretchy shift dresses and for your pencil skirts try kookai.

Military glam:
Before you reach for the combat trousers, just hold your horses, this look is far from comfy and practical. Military style lapels, shoulder lines and fastenings are key for jackets this season - try Warehouse for some of the best. This look is structured and super smart but team it with wide leg jeans and you get a great smart casual option.

The Colour Purple:
Yep, if you haven’t already guessed purple is the biggest shade around this autumn and there really is a shade to suit everyone - so no excuses. Be bold and go for a dress teamed with grey tights, French Connection have some great beaded frocks or dabble in a few key knitted pieces from Dorothy Perkins or pretty chiffon blouses from Ted Baker for a more toned down approach. Great with black or silver for a show stopping party look.

Knitting up a storm:
Dust off the knitting needles or bribe your granny as knitwear makes its big snugly return. Possibly my favourite trend and by far the warmest, this autumn sees chunky cardigans with oversized buttons, side fastening capes and plenty of comfy cardies. Try Topshop, Allsiants or Gap and team with ¾ trousers and boots for a chic winter look.

Metallics:
Still around and now even shinier. Metallics are now seen in full on dresses, high shine beading and super sized heels. Silver leggings are an option for posh (not sure about that one) but definitely more appropriate for most of us in chunky beads, shimmery scarves and cute T-bar shoes. Get to Accessorize, Karen Millen or M&S for some of this seasons top buys.

So those are my top tips to get you looking fabulously fashionable this September my darlings. I’ll be showing you how to wear them as the weeks go on so stay tuned for more style secrets.
