Artists' Nights at Body Worlds 4

Nude models pose alongside plastinates for life drawing classes

Artists' Nights at Body Worlds 4

Life models thought they had the market covered for stripping off the layers and standing with preternatural stillness in front of crowds of attentive people. Then they got invited to pose alongside the plastinates at Body Worlds 4. On 22 July and 29 July, MOSI will be hosting two special Artists' Nights, where nude models will pose alongside Dr Gunther von Hagens' preserved bodies. The event is in association with the Institute of Medical Illustrators.

The prospect of being in a room full of corpses and naked people may not appeal to everyone – but to medical illustrators, artists, anatomy students and art history lovers, it's apparently a very sought-after opportunity.

The prospect of being in a room full of corpses and naked people may not appeal to everyone – but to medical illustrators, artists, anatomy students and art history lovers, it's apparently a very sought-after opportunity.

The idea is to give aspiring and accomplished artists a unique, inside-out view of the human form so that they can study and sketch its complex anatomy. The exhibition has been inundated with requests from people who want to draw the plastinates. The Artists' Nights will give them a chance to do so in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere where they won't be in the way of visitors.

MOSI describes the event as 'the ultimate life drawing class' and we're inclined to agree. The challenge of capturing both the soul of a living being and the inner workings of the body will stretch the creativity and drawing skills of any artist. A professional tutor will be on hand to offer guidance throughout the three hour session.

Tickets for this unusual event are expected to sell out so if you'd like to attend, book in advance through www.mosi.org.uk or by calling 0871 231 0847. The Artists’ Nights will be held on 22 July and 29 July from 5.30pm until 8.30pm when the exhibition is closed to the general public. You must be 18-years-old or over to attend. Admission costs £20 which includes tutored life drawing and refreshments.
