In the third annual arts awards ceremony art06, which took place last week in Preston, Arts Council England, North West announced the two winners of its prestigious awards. Manchester based Company Fierce was one of the privileged recipients of a £10,000 prize, while the other award was given to More Music in Morecombe.

The awards were presented to the winners by leading playwright David Edgar, in front of a packed audience, each receiving £10,000 as their prize. More Music in Morecambe stormed to victory in the Arts and Communities category, while the other brand new category introduced as part of art06 was Children and Young People, which saw Manchester’s very own Company Fierce scoop the prize.

Arts Council England, North West is the region’s funding and development agency for the arts. Every year, they invest over £500 million of public funds in the arts in England, including funding from the National Lottery.

Michael Eakin, executive director of Arts Council England, North West said: “We know the North West region boasted spectacular and innovative work in both the art06 award categories. From that one individual who works tirelessly in schools to promote and encourage the work of young people, to the group who, by bringing art to a community, has brought that community closer together and enhanced the lives of local people.”
