Ethical fashion show at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall…

Going to hell for buying cheap, mass-produced clothing? SUST Fashion Show may just be able to save you from that endless, agonising suffering.

On Tuesday 4th April, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall is the location for the SUST (Sustainable Urban Styles Today) fashion showcase, providing an insight into ‘ethical’ clothing that does not profit at the cost of the planet or its people.

The sustainable fashion event run by Action for Sustainable Living, a non-profit organisation based in Manchester, will include outfits from local designers, fashion students, schools and community groups along with displays from ethical retailers such as Howies, Enamore, Greenfibres and THTC.

The garment categories are:

Eco clothes: all alternative materials e.g. hemp, vegan, organic cotton
Fair Trade: FT mark and ethical co-ops
Recycled clothes made from reconditioned material
Recycled clothes made from second hand garments

There will be a Clothing Amnesty at the event, in which all those attending can donate old pieces of clothing and select 'brand new second hand' items for themselves; plus a selection of stalls from eco/ethical exhibitors and displays from local artists.

Action for Sustainable Living (AfSL) helps local communities towards a more sustainable lifestyle through simple changes that make the world a better place to live in – for us and for future generations. SUST fashion is facilitated by AfSL, but run and managed by some of their 35 volunteers.

Tickets are £5 - 7 (based on concessions & AfSL members paying less) and are available online at www.afsl.org.uk/clothing.htm
