Architecture Bus Tour This Sunday

Take an open-top tour through the city with experts

Published on June 20th 2012.

Architecture Bus Tour This Sunday

LOTS of stuff going on this week as part of the Love Architecture Festival.

Tour two takes in Chethams, The new police buildings and tram stop at Newton Heath and the Sharp Project before heading out to Sportcity.

Anyone passionate about how Manchester is shaping up will probably already be involved but even if you are only mildly interested, if you only give a passing glance to what’s going on behind the hoardings and the wider plans you should pause awhile.

You could have a tour of Chethams with architect Roger Stephenson, go down to Rusholme and look inside Ric Frankland’s Dwelle house and understand its construction, walk Ancoats and learn about the area’s buildings and history.

Or you can go for the bigger picture with a bus tour on Sunday.

Not many takers so far for this apparently, maybe because it’s an open top bus, but take the necessary precautions against the elements and you will be rewarded with a tour of some of the city’s most significant buildings.

Tour one heads south down Oxford Road past the soon to be demolished New Broadcasting House, passed Kro2 and the Mancunian Way to The Royal Northern College of Music to Manchester Museum, down passed the Toastrack and Owens Park to The Christie then into Didsbury and Chorltonville before heading back into the city via Hulme to MOSI

Tour two takes in Chethams, The new police buildings and tram stop at Newton Heath and the Sharp Project before heading out to Sportcity.
