JARVIS Cocker will be discussing his life and work with DJ/writer Dave Haslam in the wonderful surroundings of the Great Hall of Manchester Town Hall. Marking the publication of a book of Jarvis’s selected song lyrics ('Mother, Brother, Lover’), this should be a revelatory excursion into the psyche of one of Britian’s most engaging performers of the last twenty years.
Pulp achieved major success in the mid-1990s with albums such as ‘Different Class’. An endearingly unconventional writer and singer, he has pursued a host of other projects aside from Pulp.
The publication of 'Mother, Brother, Lover; Selected Lyrics’ comes after a Summer when Pulp re-united to play UK festivals including the Isle Of Wight and Wireless.
‘Close Up’ featuring Jarvis Cocker is the latest of Dave Haslam’s ongoing ‘Close Up’ series of onstage interviews - his previous guests have included artist Jeremy Deller, musicians Kevin Rowland, Guy Garvey, and Bernard Sumner, and novelist Jonathan Franzen.
‘Close Up’ featuring Jarvis Cocker is one of the highlights of the ‘Manchester Weekender’ - 48 hours of art, culture, music, film, food, literature, walks, politics, poetry, photography, theatre, spectacle and games all wrapped up into a single weekend. The full programme; www.creativetourist.com
