Music, Food, Drink, Dancing in Manchester's premier and very lovely heritage area goes partying

Castlefield Carnival Sunday 3 June

ON Sunday 3 June Castlefield will celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a one-day carnival for all the family.

It will also have its vintage café and live music and dancing from the Hot Town Cotton Club. 

The Castlefield Carnival canalside event will offer a full programme of fun activities, food, markets and music from 10am ‘til late.  Castle Street will be closed to traffic and lined with picnic benches, street party style.

There will be lots to entertain the children including a fun fair in the Roman Gardens and family games all day in the Castlefield Arena courtesy of the Y Club from 10am – 4pm. 

For the energetic grown-ups there will be free Zumba classes in the area at 11.30am and 2.45pm. MOSI’s (The museum of Science and Industry) learning team will also be out and about doing science busking, performing little experiments for the kids. 

The monthly Castlefield Artisan market is back and will be bigger than ever selling hot food, crafts, gifts and antiques.  It will also have its vintage café and live music and dancing from the Hot Town Cotton Club. 

Choice Restaurant will join the market and bring a taste of its menu across the bridge with a special British tapas food stall. Back across the other side of the bridge they will be offering Sunday lunch and customers can enjoy a free evening piano recital.

Bohemia is bringing ‘Covent Garden to Castlefield’ with a range of street entertainment all afternoon to entertain customers who can enjoy their new outdoor drinking terraces.

From 4pm the beach will have live music including The Band Jackers, Bushart, Bedlam Shake and Brainys Fiddle. Agent Smith will also do a live set at Dukes 92 at 4pm. 

Carol Middleton, Chair of the Castlefield Forum, said: “We’re really grateful to all the local businesses, and event organisers, Blue Eyed Boy, for getting involved and offering such a terrific programme of entertainment which will really make the party go with a swing.  This is going to be a very special family-friendly event which everyone can enjoy.  We are lucky to live in a great city centre location which attracts thousands of visitors every year and the Castlefield Carnival is an opportunity to showcase all that Castlefield has to offer.”
