So macho

Gaydo gets an eyeful at Mr Gay UK

Published on June 27th 2007.

So macho

Hello Dears,

Gaydo’s sitting here in her diamante encrusted wellies with kitten heel. Dame Shirley eat your heart out.

Gaydo’s first outing in June was to ogle the cuties in the ‘Mr Gay Uk’ Manchester heat. It was held at View on Canal Street. Your host for the evening was General Manager, James. The daywear section of the competition was interesting (the things those young boys wear these days) but Gaydo’s favourite bit was the swimwear. Although, a few of the contestants got slightly confused and arrived on stage in their skimpy underwear; Gaydo wasn’t complaining.

The runners up were Gary Barton and Fidel Ranson. A HUGE, WELL DONE to Wayne Phillips (known to most people in The Village as Wayne 2000) on coming 1st. Good luck to Wayne for the final. I am sure that all the Gays in the Village who know you – and that’s a lot, will be ‘rooting’ for you.

June 22nd to June 24th saw Sparkle (the largest Transgender event in Europe) arrive in Manchester. Over a thousand registered members attended. The aim of the event was to help promote understanding and acceptance of all things transgender and what a celebration it was. Gaydo was invited by Kimberly Angel, Sparkle’s founder, to join her for champers at The Place Apartment Hotel to meet all the contestants of Miss Sparkle 2007. Gaydo has never felt so unglamorous in all her life. Those girls really know how to accessorise a frock to its full potential.

Saturday 23rd was Sparkle In The Park that was sponsored by AXM Bar. Eight hours of glamour and fun was to be had by all. We were very lucky with only one small shower to dampen the feather boas. Appearing on stage was a range of celebs, both local and national including the fabulous Miss Cara from Cruz 101, Paul from Poptastic, Kim Angel, Kitty Lashes and her Dancers and the amazing Rowetta. After the park closed, it was off to Cruz 101 for Sparkle on the Beach. The live p.a. from the Cher tribute act was as camp as tits. By the time Gaydo was kicked out of Cruz at 6 a.m., she had blisters the size of blood oranges on her plates of meat. Go to the gallery section on www.canal-st.co.uk and have a varda at the girls. Also on www.canal-st.co.uk click on Canal Street Radio and listen to Emma Goswell who presents a special series of podcasts with an exclusive, behind the scenes look, at Sparkle. Well done to Stuart Donnelly from AXM Bar who took on the role of Park Director and brilliantly co-ordinated the park’s events. The weekend was such a success that Sparkle 2008 is already being organised for 28th to 30th June.

Anyway dears, must fly. Off to see the Lady Boys of Bangkok tonight. Will give you a full report next time.
