Parking Rants

Any city centre resident, Gordo included, would be happy to tell you that living in the city centre and owning a car just don’t mix well. Not that Gordo owns a car after he was banned for speeding a few years ago and hasn't bothered to renew his license since – but his guests would certainly benefit from somewhere to park their motors.

RESPONSES

I had a meeting in the northern quarter yesterday only space I could find allowed maximum 1 hour parking???? I cut my meeting short and got back to my car 4 minutes late to find I had been given a ticket 1 minute earlier - surely there must be some sort of restriction on when they can issue a ticket!!! I thought we were living in the 21st Century? The council really know how to spoil someones day!!

Even better parking at MMU has been cut due to the building being renovated but the same number if not more people still try to park in the side street, there is enough room for disabled drivers but students are parking on the pavements. Last week I got a ticket for parking in a disabled bay not knowing they were for that purpose the are had bad lighting. this week the light was on at the facing building and you could see where you were going. Have heavy bags to take to MMU with no parking space at 6pm. Rseidents in town centre what happens on your day off if you need to park in the area out of the suggested hrs?!

West Didsbury isn't much better for parking. We always seem to have different people on our drive and often have to park half way down the street! It's a shame because whilst I want my car to be parked near where I live I also don't want any more nice buildings or trees to built on!

About time too! I for one will definitely be applying for a permit when the scheme goes live.

I've been living in Manchester now for 6 months after relocating from London - Can't believe how rubbish the council have been at the complete lack of consideration for the ever growing city centre population. And as for private/contract parking spaces.. I may as well still be in London!! The new proposals are definitely a step forward although they should have gone further and allow residents to park all day outside their homes on weekdays too. Well, at least I can look forward to not having to get up early on Saturday mornings to move my car to a pay and display car park!
