Gorrillaz Feedback

Published on December 6th 2005.

Gorrilaz

A dry, mild night. A national media blitz. A world premier of the world's most successful animated band. A 2000 capacity Opera House. An introduction by the muppet characters ‘Statler’ and ‘Waldorf’ and a Walt Disney cartoon with Duffy Duck.

FEEDBACK

The start of the show was a bit different a Daffy duck cartoon, which was enjoyable but I was getting frustrated with excitement at this point as I could not wait to see what was waiting behind the screen. Plenty of rumours had circulated that there would be 3D Holograms and other wizardly gadgets, these were false. What did lay in wait were dozens of serious performers string section backing singers and choir more fitting for both the venue and the more grown up recognition the Gorillaz deserve. Durring the encore Damon looked like a kid in a sweet shop. Not many artists get given a budget such as this, so it was great to see it all on stage on not on rider lists back stage.

Absolutely immense gig! Went on the Thursday night and was rather pained to have to pay one of manchesters fine touts £160 to get both me and my 15 year old little sister in. However it was a gig of epic proportions and would have been worth every single penny if it hadnt been for the fact de la soul werent there. Visuals were awesome as was orchestra and chior, especially the childrens chior and Im not just saying that because one of my housemates teaches some of them music (good job Piers!). Albarn was on top form and put together a must see show. Almost as good a live act as Manchesters own Whiskycats!

I managed to get tickets on Tuesday after hearing on the radio about some late tickets being released.

Couldn’t believe that they were on the fifth row until I actually got there, and was even more incredulous that ten people in front of me hadn’t bothered to turn up. It was absobloodylutely amazing.

I was slightly concerned about the seating situation, as being a bit of a gig fanatic I couldn’t comprehend having to stay sat. But it was fine. Had a good bum boogy, and a mass revolt during Dare (which got repeated due to Mr. Shambolic Sean) meant that most people got to release a bit of dance energy. All the guest appearances were fantastic, with the Wythenshawe kids choir easily stealing the show.

Honestly can not rave about it enough. Now suffering from a major case of the green eyed monster towards all those going tonight and tomorrow. They well deserve that MTV award.
