RESPONSES

Scrap the BBC licence fee and Make the BBC pay its way by attracting customers who want to buy its products. Keep BBC spongers out of Manchester. If Mancheter relly is booming we should be able to manage without jobs from what is effectively a state run, tax funded, the BBC.

Well Alex, I'm glad to see that you have such a high opinion of us southerners. However, I cant hep but say - why should we not put our kids in your schools? Yours drop out before GCSEs anyway, so at least we can fill up the classrooms for you. This is why we can afford to buy the houses in the nice areas, because we are educted and therefore employable. The Manc accent may be getting rarer - but can you honestly say that "aaar-ight arrr kid, fancy go-win darn the pob fer a pint" is pleasing to the ear??!! I love living in Manchester, and I contribute to its society and profit. So get off your high horse and get an A-Level!

The BBC in Manchester apart from the odd decent Drama/Series is pure crap, scruffy mainly ugly wannabe presenters, same old faces re appearing, even the radio station (that changes each month!) it needs a good bomb up its bum, I am a proper Manc, but am ashamed to watch the North West tack programmes! same on Granada by the way! the move might get rid of the cobwebs! wherever that be, the building on Oxford Road is an late 60s relic! make way for even more Urban Splash overpriced yuppee pads! thats my moan over, well you did ask!

The BBC's expansion means only one thing: more southerners in Manchester. They're everywhere already and whilst walking around town I've noticed Mancunian accents are becoming rarer, replaced by the irritating tones of regionally-indistinguishable know-it-all plebs acting like they own the place. Stop buying houses in all the decent areas, get your kids out of our schools and sod off back down south. The weather's better there anyway. Manchester for the Mancunians!

Please do not move out of the city centre, especially when the only other option is Salford Quays, Salford Quays is a soulless place, I have many friends who work for companies with-in the Quays area & they find it soulless & depressing, there's no independent Bars, coffee houses, recreation, (well besides the Lowry) there's no buzz to the place, as I said its soulless!

Southerners already have a bad impression of the north, it's grey & wet! If southerners have to move up here to work & you place them on the Quays, you will definatly have an unhappy work force, hence they will not function in there jobs adequately!? Maybe I'm going to far?

Manchester city centre has a buzz about it, it has life, & you have all the airport, rail & bus networks you need, when you have visitors coming up from London, don't you think you need to be central & accessible, & have some nice pubs, bars & restaurants to take them to?

I can't believe the BBC are even considering moving to the Quays, by far the most artificial, bland and community-free area in Greater Manchester. The place is a relic of poor 80s-style urban regeneration, before people realised the importance of local shops and not-driving-everywhere (unless you count the Slowest Tram Line in the World as decent transport). Its staff will be so pissed off being so near to the city centre but yet so far. Surely the Oxfor Road management know this?

Staying and expanding in Manchester is obviously the best bet. Along the Central axis, whilst the Salford Quays site might have a certain buzz it is not "central". The Beeb needs to be adjacent to excellent communcations. I have long been of the opinion that the ideal location would include a redevelopment of the magnificent London Road Fire station as a Media and perfomance centre.
