What’s on at RNCM

Several outstanding young pianists and a veteran harpsichordist are heading to the Royal Northern College of Music in the first quarter of this year.

Russian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin will be performing on Wednesday 16 February at 7.30pm. Widely regarded as one of the most exciting pianists of the last decade, he will be performing sonatas by Scarlatti, preludes by Shostakovich and Rachmaninov, Ballades by Chopin and Liszt’s Harmonies du Soir.

Tuesday 8 March sees the internationally renowned harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock play the music of Couperin, Rameau, Bach, Handel and Matthew Locke. A pioneer of historically informed performance, he will be delighting the audience with a fascinating harpsichord repertoire.

Having been involved with the RNCM for many years, pianist Jin Ju will play Schumann’s impetuous Sonata No 1 and Debussy’s Douze Etudes on Thursday 31 March. In 2009, she performed for Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican City and has won many international prizes so her performance at the RNCM is a treat for the city.

Tickets for all RNCM events can be purchased from the Box Office on 0161 907 555 or online at www.rncm.ac.uk

It's always worth popping into the RNCM most Mondays and Thursdays at 1.15 -2 or a bit for the free student concerts (all levels!). The last few have been good. Check the Website though first.
