On Tuesday 8 February, The Royal Exchange Theatre will play host to the fourth in the series of WORD events presented by the Manchester Writing School at MMU. At 7pm, the iconic Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam and award-winning screen-writer Frank Cottrell Boyce will take centre stage to celebrate the spoken word.
Dave Haslam has written for multiple national publications as well as three of his own books about cultural history including the groundbreaking Manchester England. His colourful life story means that he’s sure to have plenty to discuss, especially since he now lectures at both the University of Salford and MMU.
Hailing from Liverpool, Frank Cottrell Boyce has written screenplays for films including Welcome to Sarajevo and Twenty Four Hour Party People. Multitalented, he also writes for children and has won Carnegie medals for his children’s books. Frank is now an Honorary Fellow of the Manchester Writing School at MMU.
After the two guest speakers have discussed their work, the audience will have a chance to get books signed by both of them. Drinks will be available at the bar all evening and the Gavin Barras Duo will be providing music before the conversation.
Tickets for the event cost £5 (£3.50 for concessions) and can be booked online at www.royalexchangetheatre.co.uk or through the box office on 0161 833 9833

Yep...twas a bit of a book fest crowd that gathered. Cracked me up when one of them asked if Haslam was still DJ-ing!
