The Artlounge

Currently showing in The Triangle Basement is The Bombay Sapphire Blue Room (01 Oct –10 Nov). Now in its third year, The Bombay Sapphire Blue Room has toured museums and galleries across the UK and The Artlounge have a number of their pieces showing in the gallery for the duration of the show (some rather cute glass boobies and another piece rather more gruesome!). The Bombay Sapphire Foundation was established in 2001 to recognise and reward the best in contemporary glass design. The members of the foundation include leading international designers and some of the world's most respected figures from the glass and design industries including Tom Dixon, designer and creative Director at Habitat (recently featured in The Observer Sunday Magazine), Nicole Fahri, Fashion Designer and Nadja Swarovski of Swarovski Crystal fame. So all in all a very glam event!

As part of the exhibition, Bombay Sapphire will be holding a series of cocktail events every Wed/Thurs/Fri at a cost of £10. The event lasts for about 2 hrs and you get a cocktail on arrival, an exhibition tour, a cocktail mixology demo and an opportunity to make your own cocktails (so basically you get 4 more cocktails!). Plus people (!) you go away with a 2 for 1 voucher for a cocktail in one of their partner bars - one being Socio Rehab in the NQ - AND a goodie bag including your own cocktail kit! If you like the sound of free booze then I suggest you get your asses down here!

If you are on The Artlounge mailing list then you will be able to come to TOMORROW’s event for free. If you’re not already on the mailing list, then I suggest you get signed up! Just pop into the gallery or call on the number below.

Also, coming up in November is our First Birthday Party and to celebrate we are holding a big party on Thursday, 17th November. We will have been in Manchester a year and as part of the celebrations we have Ed Ball, a multi media performance artist who works his chosen media, usually gloss, to the sounds and rhythms of drum and bass. Definitely not one to miss! Again if you’d like an invite, just join the mailing list and we’ll post an invitation out to you but places are limited!! There’s only so many of you we can fit in the gallery you know!

Keep looking on the site for more exhibition reviews as I’ll be updating soon! Enjoy, Annabel
