Tucked away in the heart of the Northern Quarter, stroon is an eclectic hybrid between art gallery and shop, exhibiting and selling quality artwork, as well as vinyl, homeware and gifts.
Currently stroon is exhibiting work by Paul Brotherton, a Cheshire born artist who works in acrylics, watercolour, oils, gauche, ink, pencil and mixed media. In this exhibition Paul has used watercolour and pen and ink to depict some famous Manchester landmarks and city scenes.
Paul’s work is a far cry from the grey industrial cityscapes that characterise so many depictions of Manchester, bringing colour and vibrancy to familiar city scenes, as well as realistic depictions of Manchester’s shoppers and workers.
Paul uses his own imagination, observation, sketches and photography to create his work. He says that each of his paintings is ‘an adventure with a life of its own’, and says that his ‘quest’ as an artist is to ‘always learn, develop and experiment within my current creative boundaries; to recognise, interpret, communicate and celebrate positive beauty, whilst endeavouring to enhance and challenge the viewer’s perception of the world and emotional issues’.
Paul’s work has appeared in several solo shows with galleries in Manchester and London, along with numerous mixed exhibitions. His paintings have appeared in many publications including Manchester Metro, the MEN, Manchester Life and Cheshire Life.
If you’d like to check out Paul’s take on our fair city, and maybe pick up some original Manchester art for your home, then stroon are holding a special evening for Manchester Confidential readers in two weeks’ time.

The evening will be held on Thursday 24th August, from 6pm. This event will be strictly invite only, so if you’d like to reserve your place on the guest list simply fill your details into the form below to register.
