Manchester-based artist Michael Trainor is all over the place at the moment. This year he’s already gained national profile and critical acclaim for his Bathing Beauties in Lincolnshire which features beach huts for the 21st century. On Saturday he went local with the Art Car Parade. Here are the pictures. That’s him on the homepage looking the very model of an artist – or mad as a fish, take your pick.
Trainor told Confidential that, “Parades like this are popular in the States and I wanted to introduce them here. They are the perfect creative pageant. Here we have the first example of drivable art in the UK.” Confidential liked the dinosaur, the flying angels and the car mountain village thingy. Great fun too was the crazy office car – hot-wired hot-desking, so to speak. £2k of prizes were given out with the big winner Tone Float. This was selected on the day by the viewing public and was a musical milk float, the empties playing tunes. The artists behind this were Spencer Marsden and Jon Large. There was also Mr Inexplicable, a man with three dogs taking part for reasons which went right over our Confidential heads.
There will be another opportunity to view the cars at Blackpool under the illuminations on Sunday 21 October between 5-9pm
