Win tour to the top of the Tower

Confidential has teamed up with Manchester in Bloom and Manchester International Arts to give you the best view of the most beautiful event this summer.

Gerberras, anastasias, and lillies in shades of cerise and purple will mix with the lime green of turf to blossom into a vibrant, beautiful and sensory treat for passers by and visitors to the city.

This Friday, Confidential editor and Blue Badge Guide Jonathan Schofield, will take ten winners up the clock tower of Manchester Town Hall to gaze down upon a damask quilt of flowers from way up high. While we're up there we can take a good view round the city too.

As part of Manchester in Bloom, artist Jo Vickers has designed an intricate damask pattern to be laid out in scented flowers across Albert Square. This will be completed by Wednesday 16 July and stay around until 20 July.

Sixty thousand flowers will cover 900sqm and a hundred volunteers are helping Vikers complete the work. The carpet will take three days to prepare, each flower being laid by hand. Gerberras, anastasias, and lillies in shades of cerise and purple will mix with the lime green of turf to blossom into a vibrant, beautiful and sensory treat for passers by and visitors to the city.

Manchester International Arts boss, the wonderful Anne Tucker, told Confidential why a carpet of flowers in Albert Square seemed such a good idea: “We want to transform spaces so people look at them differently. These events jog people out of the everyday, out of complacency, people look again at the buildings and spaces they are familiar with. And flowers make people smile.”

There will be a viewing platform (small donation to access) in Albert Square, but it won't be a patch on our spot half way to heaven in the clocktower. The tour will also take in a couple of other areas of the Town Hall, especially the zillion carved flowers on and around building.

The tour will take place Friday 18 July between 2pm and 3pm. The meet point will be outside the main entrance of the Town Hall in Albert Square.
