Win tickets for The Fratellis

We're giving away five pairs of tickets to the closing event of In the City

Published on September 30th 2008.

Win tickets for The Fratellis

The flyer for this year's In the City reads like a roll call of the biggest bands of the last decade: Oasis, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Elastica (ok, maybe not that last one). They all played at this annual music conference/festival before fame came calling, giving it a much higher hit rate than anything Simon Cowell has touched. If you're the type who enjoys boasting about having seen big name bands in tiny venues before they were famous, you'll almost certainly be there.

The unsigned bands playing this year's festival include nine from home turf. Run Toto Run, El Condorez, The Jessie Rose Trip, Nomad Jones, Meadow, Silverclub, The Paris Riots, The Travelling Band and To The Bones are all from Manchester and its environs. They were selected from the thousands of demos sent in by unsigned hopefuls who want the chance to play in front of record label bosses and A&R executives.

The gigs aren't just for industry types though. All the unsigned bands named above will be performing in Manchester between 5 and 7 October and you can see them for free. Log onto the website www.inthecity.co.uk to find out where.

One of In the City's past protégés was The Fratellis – they played at In the City Unsigned in 2005 before going on to release their multi-platinum début album Costello Music. This year they're back as the headline act at the conference's closing event at Manchester Academy on Tuesday 7 October. Cue lots of questionable reminiscences about having been there at their first ITC gig back in the day.

The Fratellis will be supported by critically-acclaimed newcomers The Chapman Family. This gig will be 'mobile ticketed' which means you get tickets sent electronically to your mobile phone, thus saving on booking fees.

Ticket cost £12.50 and are available via www.thefratellis.com but we’ve got five pairs to give away. Just email your name, address and mobile number to fratellis@inthecity.co.uk and answer the following question for your chance to win:

Where are The Fratellis from?
