Win a meal for two at San Carlo

San Carlo is giving away a meal for two and a book about Britain's love of Italian food

Win a meal for two at San Carlo

On April Fool's Day 1957, the BBC aired its famous spoof documentary showing spaghetti being farmed off trees. Two years later, the celebrated restaurant La Trattoria Terrazza opened in London's Soho, and after the initially shaky start, the UK's passion for Italian cuisine really got underway.

San Carlo are celebrating the release of a new book about the arrival of Italian cookery by giving away a copy, along with a meal for two at their King Street restaurant.

The book, entitled The Spaghetti Tree, was written by former London restaurateur Alasdair Scott-Sutherland. It highlights the extraordinary influence of the two Italian men, Mario Cassandro and Franco Lagatolla, who founded La Trattoria Terrazza.

With its authentic dishes, informal style, and cool, modern interior, La Trattoria Terrazza became the most famous and influential restaurant brand of its time, launching a revolution in our social culture and the way we eat today.

San Carlo is excited about the release of the book because six of its current staff worked for La Trattoria Terrazza outlets in London, Leeds and Manchester during the 1970s.

You can buy The Spaghetti Tree at San Carlo for £14.99. And we've got a copy of the book and a meal for two (excluding drinks) at San Carlo to give away.
