We used to have to trek to the Rib Shack at Screenfields to get our BBQ food fix – not any more. Southern Eleven has opened a slick new restaurant at Spinningfields, sprinting distance from the Confidential office.
It offers homely, hickory-smoked food from the eleven southern states of the US in a stylish setting.
The wood burning smokers were shipped in from Oklahoma and the menu is packed with Southern classics such as tender pulled pork with homestyle slaw and jalepeno cornbread (£7.50) and BBQ-glazed spatchcock chicken with creamy whipped potato and classic bbq sauce.
There's also steaks, salads, hot potatoes, and hot sandwiches. Plus an intriguing selection of sides and 'while you wait items' – courgette fries, deep fried pickle spears, and sweetcorn pudding are amongst the options.
But although it's American in style, it's no Uncle Sam-sponsored chain restaurant. Southern Eleven is the brain child of local lad James Hitchen and all the meat is sourced from farms in Lancashire and Yorkshire. It's a true independent and we think it deserves to do well.
The new Southern Eleven Spinningfields is a grown-up version of its counterpart in the Arndale Food Court. It's a contemporary, eat-in restaurant, which seats 85 inside and 30 outdoors.
Confidential readers can get a voucher for Southern Eleven Spinningfields that gives you 40% off food, all day, every day, until 31 July.
