Win a hamper at the Fine Foods Market

There's something about the onset of cold weather that makes us want to eat more. Although food has been plentiful here whatever the season for decades now, we're still genetically-programmed to fatten up in autumn before the frost sets in. So the arrival of the Fine Foods Market in St Ann's Square is perfectly timed. Away with summer's flimsy salads – it's time to embrace warming, filling dishes like hot beef stews, curries, and hog-roast sandwiches.

In response to customer requests, the Fine Foods Market has included more restaurant stalls this year, which means there's plenty of choice for those wanting something warm to combat the sudden drop in temperature. As well as the dishes listed above, you can buy hot roasted nuts, soups, pies, paella, chorizo rolls, pancakes, and Turkish kebabs. To wash it down you have a choice of ales, Spanish beers, teas and coffees, and soft drinks.

There's also lots of take-home food to stock up your larders: jams, olives, biscuits, cakes, and so on. Novelty alcohol includes damson beer, sloe and blackberry gins, and strawberry vodka. Much of the produce is sourced locally with farmers supplying speciality meats, smoked foods, cheeses, chutneys, and black and white puddings.

Savin Hill Farm is one of the North West producers taking part. Based in South Lakeland, they sell fresh cuts of meat, award-winning sausages, dry cured products, and specialist pork pies such as their Lyth Valley Damson.
