2007 is the year of the number crunch in Liverpool, with the city's big birthday and Beatles anniversaries galore to fill the column inches. And among all this lies the The Cavern's 50th anniversary.
To celebrate, a bright spark at EMI has rifled through the back catalogues to find a roster of artists who have all appeared “where it all began”.
Result? A triple album, called The Cavern: The Most Famous Club in the World, containing 50 tracks from artists who have all appeared there since it opened on January 16, 1957. The list reads like a Who’s Who of pop music over the decades: The Beatles and The Rolling Stones together for the first time ever on a commercial album, The Coral and Travis too, plus the Arctic Monkeys who bring the tracklist up to date with a previously unreleased live version of The View From The Afternoon.
Other notable rock royalty on the album includes The Who, Queen, Elton John, Donovan, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, The Kinks, Chuck Berry and Paul McCartney performing the classic track All Shook Up live at the Cavern.
Local band and current Cavern favourite 10 Reasons To Live provide the hidden 51st track.
Closing date September 18
