Win Tickets To See Natty At The Deaf Institute

FRESH from taking time off to travel, North London artist and producer, Natty, is back and all set to embark on a UK tour.

Natty is of course no newcomer in the music world. His debut album Man Like I spurred two top 20 singles, ‘July’ and ‘Bedroom Eyes’.

"You've got a bit of afro beat, a bit of soul music, a bit of reggae music and the main lyrical influences come from folk and hip-hop."

Having spent a lot of time in Africa exploring new cultures and sounds, he’s back with the soon-to-be-released EP Change, and if his upcoming tour is anything like his last, expect musical fireworks.

So what does Natty’s music sound like? Confidential spoke to the man himself back in 2008 and he had a bash at answering the question:

"I'd say it's a mix up, mix up…it's just mixed up. You've got a bit of afro beat, a bit of soul music, a bit of reggae music and the main lyrical influences come from folk and hip-hop."

Natty’s new music is in the same vein – he’s since described his style as “Damian Marley meets Neil Young” - moving effortlessly from reggae on ‘Change’ to West African horns on the hypnotic ‘JJ (Don’t Go)’.

NattyNattyOther songs on the EP include a beautiful ambient cover of Armand van Helden’s ‘U Don’t Know Me’ and ‘SS I Love You’ - a spacey ballad recorded with The Rebel Ship. Click here to listen to tracks off the new EP.

Natty’s band still comprises of a core group of musicians and friends including Bear, his long time collaborator and guitar player, and Jahmel, a bass and percussion player with reggae roots. Together they make music – beautiful music.

As Natty said of his live shows: “I'm like nothing else in the world and no one else makes music like me. Oh, and I set fire to a PA system before...Not on purpose.”

If you want to see a PA system on fire (and hear some really great music) click the button to win a pair of tickets to see Natty at the Deaf Institute on Thursday 10 November.
