Win Ballet Tickets And Dinner At The Lowry

WE'VE high hopes for this UK premiere at The Lowry, but we think they're justified

This is ballet at its most spectacular – with beautiful music, magical costumes and sets, and bewitching dance

It's a collaboration between three big talents in theatre and dance. Namely Rae Smith who created the brilliant costumes and set for War Horse, David Bintley, the Huddersfield-born choreographer awarded a CBE for his extraordinary career, and The Birmingham Royal Ballet, who always wow us with their appearances at The Lowry.

The ballet itself is The Prince of the Pagodas. Not heard of it? It's new, in ballet terms at least. It was created in 1954 with Benjamin Britten commissioned to write the score. The story though is as old as time, featuring the classic fairytale elements of a dejected princess, a wicked stepmother, and a scaly salamander.

That last one is where the story goes off script, and where it really gets interesting.

Repellent and fascinating, the Salamander takes Princess Sakura on a journey through the elements of earth, air, fire and water. This is ballet at its most spectacular – with beautiful music, magical costumes and sets, and bewitching dance. It'll appeal to all ages, and is one for boys as well as girls.

If you love Swan Lake but want to see something different and imaginative, try this. The Prince of the Pagodas premieres at The Lowry for just three nights at the end of January, and tickets are priced from £10-£41.

Buy tickets here.

In this competition, you can win two tickets to The Prince of the Pagodas on Friday 31 January at The Lowry with dinner for two at the theatre's restaurant beforehand (two courses and a bottle of wine/non-alcoholic equivalent).
