LOVE cooking tapas as much as you love eating it? Spanish gastro restaurant Ibérica is supporting charity Action Against Hunger by giving you the chance to have your very own tapas recipe included on their menus.
The winning dish will feature on the Ibérica menu for two months (with full credit to the chef) and £1 from every dish sold will go to the life-saving work of Action Against Hunger, alongside all funds raised from the finale judging night at Canary Wharf.
What’s more, the winner will jet off on an exclusive trip to Asturias, Spain to visit Casa Marcial, the two Michelin star restaurant of Ibérica’s executive head chef, Nacho Manzano.
Gordo and Schofield flew out to Asturias earlier this year to experience Nacho’s cooking firsthand, and came back raving about it. If you want to get prematurely excited about your possible prize – read their article. It sounds like the ultimate trip for foodies.
In fact, Spanish food fans can start getting excited anyway because Ibérica is opening its first restaurant outside London in Spinningfields in February. It’s known for its authenticity and imagination, with ever-evolving menus and high quality ingredients imported from carefully selected producers in Spain. In Schofield’s words, “We’re in for a treat.”
The winning tapas recipe will feature on the menu at Ibérica Spinningfields as well as at the three Ibéricas in the capital. And it’s all for a very worthwhile cause. Action Against Hunger is a humanitarian charity committed to ending child hunger. Ibérica will donate £1 from the proceeds of each winning dish sold to their work plus all proceeds from the competition finale at Canary Wharf on 19 January.
This event is where the tapas dishes will be judged by people who know their stuff: the London Evening Standard’s comment editor and wine critic Andrew Neather; Olive magazine editor Christine Hayes; founder of three Michelin-starred DiverXO David Muñoz, and Ibérica’s Nacho Manzano himself.
You can go along and sample the final five dishes, along with Ibérica’s signature dishes. There’ll also be a drinks reception and raffle. Tickets are £35 – buy yours here.
If you’ve got a favourite tapas recipe – it could be one you discovered on your travels, or a dish you developed yourself at home – the competition is your chance to show it off. All entries must be received by 31 December 2014. The five best recipes will be shortlisted and announced on 5 January 2015.
There’s also two fantastic runner-up prizes including £300 to spend at Ibérica – details below.
