My how time flies. The Song Writers and Performers Festival 06 is nearly upon us, and will be staged in Manchester this weekend, from14-16 July.

Proving that an urban jungle can provide just as relevant a setting for live music as a muddy field, the SWAP festival will unite Manchester’s live music venues, plus all three Academies and the biggest outdoor performance spaces in this unique music event which will see famous songwriters playing alongside unsigned artists and emerging talent from across the UK.

The headline gig of the festival will be the legendary funk innovator George Clinton at Manchester Academy on Saturday night, and we have a pair of tickets to give away!

George Clinton is one of the greatest innovators of soul, rock and funk over the last forty years.

Through his groundbreaking work with Parliament and Funkadelic, Clinton virtually invented a whole new genre of music, and he stands with James Brown as perhaps the most influential black artist of all time.

George will be presenting a 3 hour P-Funk Party at Academy 1 on July 15, featuring the extraordinary talents of 30 musicians, including long time funkateers Bernie 'Woo Warrior' Worrell on keyboards and Garry 'Starchild' Shider on guitar.
