Songlines Magazine describes them as 'Tango Electronica that surpasses the Gotan formula'. But don't let that stop you from reading on!
The “Gotan Formula” didn't mean an awful lot to us, either, when we read the above in a PR handout, so we went on myspace to find out what we could about Bajofondo Tango Club.
Pretty soon we had carnations clamped in our mouths and were tripping the light fantastic up and down the Confidential stationery cupboard. After all, the tango is widely regarded as the sexiest dance in the world, and Bajofondo Tango Club's infectious sound will do a lot to arouse your sense of rhythm when it is unleashed at the Philharmonic Hall next week.
Bajofondo Tango Club is a cutting edge tango project led by Gustavo Santaolalla, double Oscar winning composer of the Babel and Brokeback Mountain scores. Direct from Buenos Aires, this tango influenced electronica features young, virtuoso musicians, stunning visuals and extraordinary beats.
Still think they look a bit tame in that picture? Well, this FT review shows otherwise: “DJ Juan Campodonico triggered drum loops and samples that cross-fertilised with the more traditional tango ensemble of violin, bandoneón - an accordion- like instrument - and double bass, all of which were brilliantly played by masters of their instruments. The crowd went wild for it, invading the stage at the end and cheering for more with a standing ovation”.
Sounds good to us, and we've got two pairs of tickets to experience it all when Bajofondo play Liverpool on Tuesday, 23 October 2007. If you want to buy tickets, call the Phil on 0151 709 3789.
Otherwise. just fill in the boxes here, and have a dance with Lady Luck.
