The Helicopter Game

Published on June 7th 2005.

How long can you keep your chopper up for? That’s the question we’re asking today as the game that’s got Manchester’s offices and homes buzzing takes over our every day lives.

In a bid to save the game from meandering towards eternal damnation for giving no satisfaction aside from seeing the smile wiped off your colleagues’ faces as you fly your helicopter across classic Spectrum-like graphics before beating their previous best total, we’re offering you the chance to win a top computer game for your efforts.

This motivational and mentally stimulating exercise will hopefully appease local bosses who have been contacting us complaining that staff have been glewed to their screens unable to prepare for meetings. Discussions on growth rate and expenditure have been replaced by how hard the game is once you hit 650 points. Anything’s better than talking about Big Brother or, heaven forbid, Celebrity Love Island.

One boss, Paul Scally, Chief Executive at E.R Systems Ltd. spoke of his dismay at lack of focus at work. “If my staff had as much desire for their day jobs as they do for this chopper game, I’d be a happy man” he said before slamming his fist down on his desk as his helicopter crashed and burned for the umpteenth time.

Just play the game (once if you can, although like eating a fruit pastille without chewing it, you’ll find that almost impossible), take a screenshot of your best score, attach it to an email and click here to email it to us. The winning score will receive enough vouchers from Game to go and buy a latest title on either PlayStation 2, Xbox or PC format.

How do i take a screenshot?
Step 1: Play the game until your 'copter crashes
Step 2: When you crash, you'll see your 'best score' appear in the bottom right hand corner
Step 3: Press 'Print Screen' on your computer.Step 4: Open up a photo editor on your computer, go to 'New' and press Control+V. Alternatively, open word and press Control+V
Step 5: Save off the image or document, attach it to an email and email it to us to enter the competition!

So, what are you waiting for? Click here to get playing (Just don’t tell the boss) and then click here to email it to us to enter the competition.

Closing Date: 17th June, 2005
