Sam’s gets into the swing

On 13th July 2006, Sam’s Chophouse will be welcoming Andy Hamilton, often touted as the Godfather of Calypso Jazz. Andy and his band will be playing live at Sam’s Chophouse.

I have to admit, that I’m not entirely sure what exactly Calypso Jazz is. But it sounds like a happy, summery affair that lies somewhere between Matt and Phred’s and the Little Mermaid, which seems like a good place to be.

Jamaican born Andy Hamilton is a legend in the jazz world, despite not releasing his first album until the age of 73, which went on to be named the Times jazz album of the year, and the best selling jazz CD of 1993.

You may remember Andy from the BBC broadcast from outside Sam’s on the opening night of the Commonwealth Games, and now he’s back again to treat fans to a night of live jazz.

Roger Ward of Sam’s Chophouse said ‘we’re really lucky to have Andy and his band with us in a venue like Sam’s. They’re premier league entertainers. I’ve known him as a friend and surrogate dad for almost 30 years now. He’s quite simply one of the most charismatic and yet humble people you could ever meet. It will be your privilege to meet him, and hopefully, a night you’ll remember forever.’
