Opera North are giving us a pair of tickets for two rip-roaring rampaging productions at the Lowry.
These are Paradise Moscow and The Abduction from the Seraglio.
Opera North's Paradise Moscow is choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood [Strictly Come Dancing] and its revival director is Caroline Clegg, who is well known in Manchester for her Feelgood Theatre Productions.
It’s set in the 1950s and mixes realism, fantasy, romance and villainy, in a brilliant comic satire on corrupt Party officialdom and the Soviet mania for urban planning. A colourful collection of characters are about to move into brand new apartments, hoping that this will be the paradise that they have been promised, and not just another empty dream.
The score veers from wildly tuneful dance music to lyrical ballads, creating a lively musical parody of a whole range of styles including Offenbach, Tchaikovsky and Lehar along with little rock ‘n’ roll.
The second production is a fantasy comedy by Mozart called The Abduction from the Seraglio. It explores the comic tensions and misunderstandings that can arise when one culture collides with another. It is a fast moving evening with modern dialogue, a set design which moves the action between contemporary and period; a fancy dress ball with a Panda, Wonderwoman and Batman and some zany silent comedy pantomimes.
We have one pair of tickets to give away for Paradise in Moscow (2 June) and one pair of tickets to give away for The Abduction in the Seraglio (4 June).
This competition has now closed. Congratulations to our winners David Burgess and Karen McLaughlin.
