Ivan Brackenbury tour: win tickets

Described by the Times as the funniest thing they had seen at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the award nominated “Ivan Brackenbury’s Hospital Radio Road-show” rolls into town on Tuesday 11 March at The Comedy Store.

The hilarious Brackenbury aka “The Cheerful Earful” is the fictional flag ship presenter of Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Hospital Radio. His mission is simple; he sets out to bring a ray of hope to the ailing hospital patients. However his mission is somewhat undermined by his curious selection of inappropriate records.

Rod Stewart’s “First Cut is the Deepest”, for a self harmer, Coldplay’s “Yellow” for a jaundice sufferer and “Baggy Trousers” by Madness for a patient recovering from anorexia.

Aside from the dedications which come thick and fast, for the best part of an hour, the show is littered with brilliant one-liners, intricate observations and an array of superb jingles, competitions and callers (one of whom is lucky enough to have her test results read out live on air), all which make this a must see show for both comedy fans and music radio fans alike.

Ivan Brackenbury is the comedy character creation of comedian and former radio DJ, Tom Binns. The character first made an appearance on Radio 1, way back in 1994 on Stewart Lee and Richard Herring’s “Fist of Fun”. This was followed by Ivan having his own show on BBC GLR and making regular appearances on Chris Evan’s breakfast show on Virgin Radio.

Ivan only became a live comedy act at the tail end of 2006 and since his rise has been meteoric. He had a sell out show at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which was met with almost universal approval by the national press; he was nominated for the very prestigious if.comedy Award (formerly the Perrier Awards) and won the Spirit of the Fringe Award. Post Edinburgh he has performed in the Far East and in the West End and will be recording his own pilot for BBC Radio 2, which will be broadcast in September.

Ivan Brackenbury’s tour arrives in Manchester for one night only, don’t miss it, you’ll be hospitalised with laughter.

We have ten pairs of tickets to give away so fill in the form below to be in with a chance of winning. Winners will be notified on Tuesday 11 March in the afternoon and their names put on the door.
