Glad tidings we bring

Were you a shepherd? Or were you the good looking swot who got the starring gig as Joseph or Mary?

Research a few years ago said that our adult view of ourselves could be influenced by the very first part we were given in that school nativity play. Now, whether that was some PR-spun bilge or not, we forget, but one thing we all have memories of is that biggest event on the school calendar. Now the Liverpool Playhouse presents a Christmas show that will strike a chord with any child who’s ever been in a nativity – or any adult who’s watched one through their fingers.

Tim Firth, the acclaimed Warrington writer of The Preston Front, Calendar Girls and Kinky Boots has created The Flint Street Nativity, with songs and sketches and jokes old and new.

Adults play the children, and the classroom antics backstage at Flint Street Primary School’s nativity play are awash with jealousies, teasing, blackmail, unrequited love and of course, Christmas carols as only children know how.

The cast of 10 includes Shameless star Gillian Kearney, Scully star Drew Schofield and Paul Kemp, with original songs by Tim Firth. The show runs from this Thursday, December 7, Saturday 20 January 2007.

Just fill in the form here, and a little starry email of wonder could be twinkling its way right back to you very soon.
