Da Vinci – The Genius exhibition: Exclusive competition offer for Manchester Confidential readers

While the car, helicopter, bike and military tank were inventions of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, one man dreamt them up hundreds of years before. That man was Leonardo Da Vinci

A comprehensive new exhibition at MOSI (Museum of Science & Industry), Da Vinci – The Genius, explores the brilliant mind of this painter, inventor and innovator with a series of full-scale machines created from his designs, as well as sections on his famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

There are 65 of his inventions, including an early version of the helicopter, an early concept of the car as well as numerous military vehicles and equipment. Exhibition design company Grande Exhibitions worked with Italian artisans, who handcrafted the machines in wood using Da Vinci’s original drawings.

In ‘The Secrets of the Mona Lisa’ section Pascal Cotte’s work to uncover the true colours and detail of this iconic painting is displayed in several large-scale photographs of the portrait. Cotte’s powerful 240 megapixel Multi-spectral Imaging Camera uses infra-red and intense illumination to see deep underneath the Mona Lisa’s layers of restoration. His work reveals that the Mona Lisa had eyebrows, and there is a bluer sky behind a younger-looking subject. The unfinished section of the painting shows a fur-lined coat resting on her knees.

Manchester Confidential has teamed up with MOSI to give our readers an exclusive offer to see Da Vinci – The Genius. If you use this offer to book a ticket before noon on Friday 4 December you’ll get a 20% discount on a full price adult ticket (usual price £7.50) and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a free overnight stay at Manchester’s luxury five star Radisson Edwardian Hotel.

Please note that tickets can be bought for any day in the exhibition run, but must be booked before noon on Friday 4 December in order to qualify for the ticket offer and be entered into the competition.

Customers will be required to select their date as per normal and then select their quantity of tickets from the ‘MOSI Special Offer’ slot and add the password ‘confidential’ into the password box next to the price. Please note that this is case-sensitive and so will be required to be entered as typed here (minus the inverted commas obviously).
