Finding a good hairdresser is like finding a soul mate – hard to come by. Jayne discovers a kindred spirit and a jolly nice haircut at David Rozman

Published on November 3rd 2006.

Let’s face it, when it comes to getting your locks snipped and preened then we’re spoilt for choice here in Manchester. From well known chains to independent salons, there’s a hairdresser to suit every taste and budget. That’s why it’s important for any new salon in the City Centre to stand out from the crowd.

David Rozman does just that and then some. His new salon has recently opened in Lincoln Square, between Albert Square and Deansgate, and is absolutely beautiful, and individual, in so many ways. At David Rozman you’ll get more than a perfect haircut – you’ll be treated like a Persian kitten on a silk cushion, and walk out feeling like a pampered princess.

I went along to try David and his beautiful salon out. From the Christopher Wray chandelier hanging above the entrance to the sleek, bespoke mirrors, the salon is chic, eclectic and modern – but not pretentious.

The thing that makes David Rozman stand head and shoulders above other Manchester hairdressers is, not that he is especially tall, but that he prides himself on customer service. From the moment you walk through the door, you’ll feel like the most important person in the room. No, in the city. They really can’t do enough for you.

David’s philosophy is that going for a haircut should be more than a quick snip-snip-thank-you-miss affair. He wants to create a real experience for the customer, not just a haircut. Although the haircuts are pretty darn good.

The thing with David and his team is that they actually listen. In my experience, 90 per cent of hairdressers seem to struggle with this basic human faculty. David and his staff are attentive to what you want. And they pay close attention to your hair type and your face shape to advise on what will work, and what won’t. It’s simple really – you talk, they listen, and then you leave the salon with exactly the hair cut that you asked for. Hurray!

As part of the David Rozman experience, customers can choose from a variety of different treatments, from special conditioning treatments to Indian head massages. These treatments can be carried out either in the stunning salon, or in the privacy of the VIP room.

The VIP room is a special feature exclusive to David Rozman. It’s a peaceful sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the salon, where customers can enjoy their hair experience in peace and quiet, with aromatherapy candles and complimentary wine or champagne. The VIP room can be used for a number of purposes. Obviously if you’re just so important that you couldn’t possibly get your hair cut in amongst the common folk in the salon then it’s the place for you. But it’s also a great idea for girly treats – if you and a friend have a night out planned then this would make the perfect pre night out warm up.

With Christmas coming up, David Rozman’s pamper packages could also make for an ideal present (for me, if anybody who knows me is reading this). For details of the VIP room, click here and find out about David Rozman gift vouchers here.

The David Rozman experience is enhanced by the use of Aveda products – all environmentally conscious and absolutely scrumptious, made from completely natural ingredients and smelling like paradise. I was treated to Aveda products both outside and in, with fantastic hair care and the most delicious tea that I’ve tasted. Mint and liquorice, mmm mmm. The salon stocks all Aveda products, so you can recreate the experience at home. For details of Aveda’s products, click here..

Whilst I was having my hair styled, David’s colour specialist came over to give me some honest advice about my colour. Now I’m as brunette as they come, but I’ve been toying with the idea recently of going a little lighter. Dieter advised me that this was a no-no however due to my dark eyes – like Catherine Zeta Jones’ apparently (yeah yeah you wish – ed) – and that if anything I should go a shade darker.

I’m normally a little wary of colourants, but the permanent Aveda colours used at David Rozman are 97% naturally derived from plants and non-petroleum based minerals. This means that they are very nice to your hair indeed – making it look and feel happy and healthy. So next time I visit the salon I may push the boat out and go for the whole Zeta Jones look. Well, I can but hope.

David Rozman has everything that you could possibly need to tempt you and your troubled tresses in off the street. Professionalism, customer service that would put anyone to shame, and, most importantly, the promise of a terrific haircut.
