Ain’t love grand?

Loved Spa is offering one lucky winner the chance to win two luxury treatments - Microbrasion and Omnilux Revive. All entrants to be in by Friday 11th November.

Ain’t love grand?

As Ewan McGregor gazed up into Nicole Kidman’s eyes in Moulin Rouge and sang “Love is a many splendoured thing”, “Love changes everything”, “All you need is love,” he had a point.

And the language of love is one that has transcended thousands of generations, inspired a million love songs, made ink flow from the tortured poet’s pen and caused some rather tragic crimes of passion along the way.

But it also inspired the concept behind Loved Salon in Bramhall. Director Helen Lewis said: “When I started this place in 2001, I wanted to create the happiest place I could.

“In a nutshell ‘Loved’ is all about happiness. We want clients to leave us feeling happier than when they arrived and eager to return. We try to ensure that whatever we do is in the spirit of ‘Loved.’”

Helen has researched everything right down to the last coffee bean (she read that café Suburb was awarded Café bar of the year by a Manchester magazine and hunted down the supplier of their beans).

But apart from a frothy cappuccino, she found out that what men and women really want is to be nurtured. Loved is not a clinical salon that strips you of pleasures as well as your epidermis, in the quest for beauty. Loved is all about the feel good factor, comfort and ‘me time,’ hence why it has been combined with a bistro style café to enhance the indulgent experience.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been booked in for a Microbrasion (at other salons) but every time, I’ve bolted as fast as my Miu Mius could carry me, due to horror stories of bruised skin and swelling. But I trust Helen, and if you’re going to allow someone to let machinery loose on your prized possession, you’ve gotta trust them.

And I have good reason for my trust, she’s a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to treatments and how our layers of skin function and respond. Our learned friend uses Diamond Microbrasion, £55 (as opposed to the abrasive crystal one). It’s not a particularly relaxing treatment, you don’t drift off to the land of nod while your face is being both simultaneously hoovered and deeply exfoliated by the tiny diamonds. But, by golly me, does it work. It sucks all those frightful little nasties out of your face like black heads and dead skin cells, whilst polishing the surface.

Helen combines my Microbrasion with the Omnilux Revive treatment (£55). Helen warns me in advance that this treatment could literally take my breath away by the intensity of the light that is projected onto my face. And for the first ten seconds, I did think I would embarrassingly be the first person in history to wave the white flag and say “enough is enough”. But just as Helen predicted, your body soon adjusts to the light and it’s no more gruelling than lying on sunny beach.

Omnilux is an amazing treatment, in fact so impressive, that Christie hospital have used it for years as a treatment before and after surgery as it allows the relevant creams to penetrate, right down to the dermal layers of skin, producing more collagen.

In boudoir terminology, Helen says: “It firms up the mattress of the skin.” She explains that before 30, your skin is like a new goose feathered pillow, all plumped and soft. Hit 30 and the pillow looks like it’s been in a pyjama party fight – flat and battered.

The effects are instant, which is always rewarding and it does make you question why you spend a fortune on “wonder” creams which promise you eternal youth, when treatments like this every three months, cost less and the results are visible.

The whole Loved experience isn’t something you can bottle and mass-produce. And if you could, you’d be flogging it for millions. You can’t buy customer care, location (Bramhall is suitably quaint), comfort, trust and happiness. They are things that only come flooding genuinely through the Loved doors.

But I’ll let Moulin Rouge have the final word on this one….

“The greatest thing we’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”
