Friday May 24: Councillor cleared, Macca loses £60m, devils and more in the day's news round-up in not many words

Published on April 24th 2009.

Anything goes
COUNCILLOR Louise Baldock, the Liverpool Labour group ethics spokeswoman, has been cleared of breaching the Standards Board Code of Conduct.

Cllr Baldock made comments on her blog, two years ago, about the ruling Lib Dems which were “gratuitously offensive”, the Standards Board for England found.

She ranted that the Liberal group and ruling Liberal Democrat group were “deceitful, conniving, opportunistic bastards”.

Macca blue
Paul McCartney is said to have seen his fortune fall by £60m over the past year as the credit crunch hits the rich and famous.

This is due to falling property and share values as well as his costly divorce to Heather Mills.

According to the Sunday Times Rich List, Macca is down to his last £440m.

Horror story
A SEACOMBE woman is taking legal action after an author claimed she was possessed by a demon.

Nicola Nield, 39, said she was horrified at Vincent McCann’s autobiography “Freed From Satan’s Grasp”.

In it, the Birkenhead writer describes a 1987 relationship with a girl he calls "Jane" who he describes as speaking with the voice of a man and begging him to carry out “perverse sexual acts and foaming at the mouth. Well presumably she is now.

Crime down
CRIME on Merseyside today stands at its lowest level since 1985.

More than 9,000 fewer people here became victims of crime for the financial year 2008-09 than the previous 12 months, a seven percent drop., according to official figures.

Despite rises in drug-related crimes and robberies, overall crime at its lowest level for nearly a quarter of a century.

Round of applauseApril 24th 2009.

Hilarious the Louise Baldock rant. She's right though.

Don't let us forget that Ms Baldock was cleared of the charges and was only criticised because of the swear word she used. Meanwhile a Liberal Democrat Executive Member is convicted in the criminal court and loses his appeal. There's no comparison. Liberal Opportunism led to the charge against Ms Baldock so her essential charge is proven.

Angela offers a tragic but likely prediction. The LDL gravy train probably cannot be derailed until 2017 thanks to the Lib dems sneaking through a five year extension to the appalling contract almost imediately after the first samning report allowing them to syphon off taxpayers money to obscene levels in a city cutting back on essential services, a contract about which the council and LDL continue to show contempt for the freedom of Information laws by ignoring requests about the contractual process for almost a year.

amazing that a councillor can be hauled in front of the standards board for telling the truth. but then those that have lied are routinely cleared by the standards board. the world is being turned on its head. as the rottweiller will not be if/when labour take over. they will sign a pact with the devil and the people of liverpool will pay the price for ngenerations to come.

Language madam! Well I have to say I am appalled by Ms Baldock's comments - she missed out two faced and gutless. She will have to be more thorough come 2010 when the Lib dems will be run out of office thanks to their despotic leadership. Although some idea, sometime soon, of what is to be offered as an alternative set of policies would be useful - so much ammunition available but no sound of Labours guns. A position statement on the glorious triumph that is Liverpool Direct, would be nice. LDL - the poisoned chalice that will be passed on to the next administration. An intoxicating little brew, that may require a hair of the dog on the morning after the polls close - although the dog's head is the only real cure.
