The Nifty 250: news of the day in so many words

TEACHERS TO CONVERGE ON LIVERPOOL after it was announced the city was the “perfect setting” for the annual NUT conference. The five-day event at the BT Convention Centre in April will attract 1,500 delegates and up to the same number again in friends and family, and is expected to generate £1m for the city’s economy. Among the teachers, there will also be government officials and senior politicians scrutinising a host of issues and shaping future policies.

CONSTRUCTION WORK IS COMPLETED ON MUSEUM OF LIVERPOOL and has now been handed over to its owners to begin fitting it out. The largest museum to be built in Britain in more than a decade marked the milestone by holding a preview fundraising dinner in one of the expansive gallery spaces, hosted by National Museums' chair, Prof Phil Redmond. The internal fit-out will begin next week, and when completed will tell the story of Liverpool and its people.

ECHO ARENA AND BT CONVENTION CENTRE CONTRIBUTED £200M TO CITY’S economy in its first year. In 2008, the ACC saw 700,000 people pass through its doors and staged over 200-days of activity in its state-of-art auditorium.

is the warning from health chiefs at the North West Ambulance Service. Staff must also ensure their green shirt is tucked-in and footwear must be issued by the trust and be fully polished. Breach of the dress code could result in disciplinary action. Paramedics said the guidelines had "gone that one step too far".
