The Nifty 250: news of the day in so many words

A WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT has been threatened after developers failed to get finance for the scheme. Lead Asset Strategies bought the Princes Paradise site more than two years ago, but now faces being struck off the Companies House Register. The planning permission to create New World Square, a 360-apartment block and five-star hotel, expired last month, leading them to apply for defunct planning permission.

THE PLANS FOR ALDER HEY will be shown in the House of Lords at a reception sponsored by Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Rev James Jones. Children’s Health Park project director, Richard Glenn, said, “The opportunity to integrate the hospital with the park and deliver a comprehensive regeneration of both was the starting point for the development of a holistic green vision.”

THE SEVEN PEOPLE appointed to the Hillsborough panel were unveiled by ministers at the House of Commons yesterday. The seven cover a range of disciplines and include: Phil Scraton, Katy Jones, Peter Sissons, Paul Leighton CBE, Dr Bill Kirkup CBE, Christine Gifford, and Sarah Tyacke. Home secretary Alan Johnson said, “The new panellists are all experts in their field and will bring a range of vital skills to the work of the Hillsborough independent panel.”

THE LIVERPOOL CAPTAIN is to join Madame Tussauds. Standing alongside sporting greats, Steven Gerrard’s £150,000 wax figure will be unveiled in the interactive Sports Zone in February after four months of sculpting. The midfielder will be wearing his Liverpool kit, which was donated along with his football boots.
