THE CITY COUNCIL HAS ACCUSED TESCO OF RISKING REGENERATION in the Great Homer Street area after challenging the legal battle it lost against Sainsbury’s.
Developers, St Modwen, and Liverpool City Council hit out at the supermarket for causing another delay to the redevelopment. Tesco will seek a review of the decision which favoured its rivals to open a supermarket as part of the £150m Project Jennifer scheme.
A LIVERPOOL SURGEON HAS WON A TOP AWARD, making him one of only three doctors in the country to hold the accolade.
Graeme Poston, consultant surgeon at Fazakerley Hospital, was awarded the Stanford Cade Medal by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Mr Poston was given the award, handed out every three years, in recognition of his lifetime of achievement, saving the lives of hundreds of cancer patients. The surgeon said, “I am very proud to have been given this award.”
PLANS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TO RESTORE THE UK’S FIRST MOSQUE to its former glory. The refurbishment of the Grade II listed building at 8 Brougham Terrace, Kensington, is set to cost £3m to £4m.
If the plans are accepted by Liverpool City Council, the historical building will house a new mosque, a courtyard, museum, art gallery, learning centre for interfaith work, library and cafe.
A TEENAGER HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH SHINING A LASER PEN INTO THE COCKPIT of a police helicopter. The 16-year-old will appear before magistrates next month accused of the offence, which happened on November 20 in Speke, as an Easyjet flight from Belfast to JLA was in the air.
