LIVERPOOL FC captain Steven Gerrard will appear in Liverpool Crown Court today, charged with affray. The 29-year-old, who is pleading not guilty, is standing trial along with six others after an alleged fight broke out last December at Southport’s Lounge Inn where a man was injured. Mr Gerrard, from Formby, had been celebrating Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Newcastle. The trial is expected to last two weeks.

Death crash
FOUR people died in a crash in Wirral on the early hours of Sunday morning. Two men, aged 19 and 20, and two women, aged 19 and 43, all from the Neston area, died at the scene after the Vauxhall Tigra they were travelling in hit a tree on the A540 Chester High Road near Neston. Cheshire police have said the victims will be formally identified later.

Drug trafficker jailed
A MAN from Birkenhead has been jailed for eight years after admitting drug trafficking in Venezuela. Paul Makin, 31, and his wife, Laura, were arrested when 53lb (24g) of cocaine was found as they tried to board a flight to London in February. Mrs Makin is charged with the same offence but denies the charge. The couple was travelling with their four young children when they were arrested.

Blaze death
THE BADLY burned body of a woman, believed to be in her 40s, has been found by firefighters following a blaze at a flat in Wallasey. Police are investigating.
