Over and out
THE Liverpool Culture Company was wound up today, after four years, and released its final report.
Having invested over £122million in what has been called “One of the most successful Capital of Culture programmes ever”, the job of the Liverpool Culture Company is now complete and it is able to hand back a small surplus to Liverpool City Council, which contributed £75million towards the total budget.
Creative hubs
CINEMA fans are being asked to power films by pedalling their way to the final credits. The exhibition staged by Magnificent Revolution at FACT Picturehouse in Wood St, needs ten audience members to cycle for 15 to 20 minutes each and fast enough to ensure the warning light does not flash and the film starts to fade. The exhibition is part of Liverpool's Year of the Environment.
Going, going...
LIVERPOOL council says a stagnating population will contribute to the £122m deficit facing the city by 2017. The Liberal Democrat-led administration claims the removal of funding the city gets to compensate for its declining population will hit its budget, although Labour opposition members accuse the administration’s “poor financial management” for a situation that will see expenditure cut by 15% over the next five years.
Girls allowed
PARENTS at a Sefton Park girls’ school are holding a crisis meeting over plans to admit boys. Concerned families from St Hilda’s CofE high are angry at the city council’s plans to make the school co-educational from 2014, with one parent saying they are “disgusted by the council’s actions”.
