The Nifty 250: News of the day in so many words

Tuesday Oct 13: Road closed, Beatles road, nurse on road back to work and any road

Published on October 13th 2009.

M6 IS CLOSED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS after a lorry overturned. The carriageway is shut between junction 18 at Holmes Chapel and junction 19 at Tabley. The lorry's BIG load of bitumen covered the road surface, which will now have to be re-laid, Cheshire Police said. No-one was injured and the motorway is expected to re-open at lunchtime.

FOUR MERSEYSIDE FOOTBALL PLAYERS HAVE BEEN CHARGED by the FA over breaching betting rules. The players - Lee Parle, Adam Farley, Paul Woolcott and Freddie Potter - played for Crosby-based Marine FC at the time of the alleged offences, with the charges relating to bets placed on two Northern Premier League matches. The FA prohibits anybody with direct or indirect influence in match’s outcome from betting on the result. The players have two weeks to respond to charges.

A LIVERPOOL NURSE WHO WAS STRUCK OFF for filming examples of neglect at a Brighton hospital has won her battle to return to work. The High Court approved a settlement between Margaret Haywood and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, with the striking-off order imposed in April being replaced with a one-year caution.

Ms Haywood filmed at the Royal Sussex Hospital for a BBC Panorama in 2005 and said she knew “the risks”.

A BEATLES TRAIL COULD BE SET-UP IN LIVERPOOL if the council’s plans go ahead. Dubbed “The Long Winding Road”, the tour would take in locations connected to the Fab Four, with the motion being debated at the council meeting tomorrow.

A Beatles trail? In this city? How imaginative! Why don't we have a Mike Storey Story, and a Maritime Muse. Now THAT would be original...

'The Long and Winding Road'? Don't make me laugh! 'The Choked and Crawling Bottleneck' would be a better title for any road "improvement" scheme from this Council.

This is what you get when you look at other news sites and 30,000 tonnes is what was reported elsewhere. Is it litres, is it bushels we have no idea. But we've changed it now. Cheers.
