The Nifty 250: News of the day in so many words

<b>Tues Jan 5: </b>Whitehouse pub and Watchmakers building face CPO, Plane in emergency landing and other mayhem because it's snowing

Published on January 5th 2010.

A RYANAIR PLANE MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING at Liverpool John Lennon Airport due to a suspected fire on board. One hundred and fifteen passengers and six crew-members were evacuated from the Morocco-bound FR4021 fli ght, as an emergency was declared and police, fire crews and paramedics rushed to the airport. A Ryanair spokesperson later announced there was no fire and a “faulty indicator light is the suspected cause” of the turnback.

PROPERTY “DEVELOPER” FRENSON could have two historic city centre buildings taken off its hands if it refuses to stop them rotting away.Council building chiefs say they will put a CPO on the Watchmaker’s building, in Seel Street, and the Whitehouse pub, in Berry Street, covered by a Banksy rat, if they continue to decay. But first they plan to issue Frenson Ltd with a repairs notice, which would order them to take care of the Grade II-listed buildings. The Watchmaker’s building, planners say, it is the finest example of this type of building in the city.

LIVERPOOL JOHN LENNON AIRPORT HAS CLOSED due to the weather, and over 90 local schools have also closed. Air passengers have been urged to check their flight status with the airline, and rail passengers are being advised to expect long delays. The AA has warned motorists to be extra careful and not to travel unnecessarily after a number of collisions.

MERSEYSIDE PLUNGED INTO SUB-ZERO TEMPERATURES last night, with most waking up to thick snow on the ground. Forecasters predict the icy weather is set to last for another week, with bookies slashing the odds on this being the coldest January on record.

Picked up a discarded Echo on the train last night (honest). It was reported that The Whitehouse Pub has a 'Banksy Cat' on it. Good accurate local news coverage. Keep it up Echo. Before you start, no I don't Leffe!

I would suggest people now keep a close eye on the Watchmaker's building and The Whitehouse. Once something like this is mentioned, they have a mysterious habit of the roof going missing, going on fire or somebody sneaking along and hacking the front off with sledgehammers to start the preservation work prior to bulldozing it.
